On National First Responders Day, firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, fire alarm dispatchers, police officers and other first responders from across the nation came together for a ceremony in Times Square hosted by the First Responders Children’s Foundation.
Honored and humbled to represent the FDNY and NYC, showcasing the work of first responders nationally. Recognized in The Crossroads of the World First Responders children’s Foundation ceremony.

In celebration of #NationalFirstRespondersDay, #NYCDOC Officer Barbosa Jr. and many other heroes from across the country were honored by the 1strcf today for their exceptional bravery during a special ceremony in #TimesSquare.
This past September, Barbosa Jr., alongside Officers Stanislaus and McQueen, helped to save the life of a toddler at the Robert N. Davoren Center (RNDC) on #RikersIsland after the little one was struggling to breathe because he was choking on a potato chip.
During today’s recognition, the foundation’s officials presented Barbosa Jr., with the Community Hero Award and noted that he exemplifies what it means to go beyond the badge. Barbosa Jr., an 18-year #DOC veteran, is also a former Emergency Medical Technician.
On behalf of DOC, Commissioner Lynelle Maginley-Liddie also commended Barbosa Jr., for his extraordinary display of heroism and extended a congratulations to all of today’s honorees, which included heroes from our partners in public safety NYPD and FDNY.
“It takes incredibly special men and women to run towards danger and stay ever vigilant in anticipation of a call to action that can come at any time. That’s what a hero does. They do the hard work that others cannot. They put themselves in harm’s way to shield others. They go forward when others shy away. They risk their own safety to ensure the safety of others and they see service as a calling, not a burden,” the Commissioner said. “First responders and first responder families, it is not easy to do what you do. I join everyone at the First Responders Children’s Foundation in commending your tremendous dedication to your communities and your commitment that no one facing danger does so alone.”
